Magnificent, Peaceful Montgomery Place

Late this morning, my friend Erika and I ventured over to Montgomery Place, an old estate right down the road from Bard.  As with Poets' Walk, I'd never been there before, so my visit was long overdue.  I couldn't go inside the house, but I enjoyed walking around the grounds, which were very quiet.  Somehow views of the mountains across the river never get old!  Possibly my favorite part of the estate was a little man-made pond called The Ellipse, partly because of its name, and partly because I thought it was a particularly beautiful spot.  It was a nice local excursion!

  1. Beautiful photos, Steph, and nice use of alliteration in the post title. I can picture the frog as Mr. Toad in "The Wind in the Willows" driving his motorcar around this estate. Any indication who the Montgomerys were? I'd love to visit this place the next time I'm on campus.

    1. Hi Mom,
I'm glad you enjoyed the photos and alliteration. :-) I see what you mean about Wind in teh Willows--I don't know how I hadn't thought of that! Montgomery Place actually reminded me a lot of Pride and Prejudice. I was waiting for Mr. Darcy to come riding out on horseback! I'm not sure who the Montgomerys were-- a notable local family, I'd guess. We were too busy enjoying the scenery to read most of the informational signs! I'd definitely be up for visiting it with you.
